Meet the Experts: Portage, Indiana


Jim Coffee

has been in the steel industry for over 33 years. Jim’s knowledge of the roll shop is almost unparalleled. While working for U.S. Steel, he spent 12 years as the roll shop manager and managed bearing repair maintenance. While in this capacity, he set standards for rolls chocked, rolls blasted and rolls ground. Jim also served as a crew leader, a turn supervisor and as co-chairman of the Tin Mill Products Safety Team. Jim has received supervisor training, cold roll and tin mill technology training as well as bearing, work roll and back-up chock repair training. He also received Morgoil system training and was a U.S. Steel safety auditor, safety conversation and investigator instructor. Jim has also worked as a roll builder and a mill wright helper. He performed bearing repair, was a shot blaster, a craneman, a mobile equipment operator, a grinder operator and a roll grinder.



Craig Heldt

has been with Neo for over 14 years. He knows first hand every aspect of the plant from plating to EDT to driving the trucks. Having held every position in the Indiana facility, no one knows the Indiana plant better. Craig has completed a 10-hour general OSHA course and a Chromium Plating for Engineering Applications custom course. He has also completed the Supervisor Development program at The University of Notre Dame and the ISO 9001 Internal Process Audit training.







Bob Coburn

has been with Neo Industries for almost 3 years and has been in the steel industry for 10 years. Prior to Neo, he served as the General Forman at National Standard, a Heico subsidiary and sister company to Neo Industries. Bob has participated in the Metcalf Group 2 day seminar on conflict resolution and team building. He has attended the Southwest Michigan College 2 day credited course on "Principles of Lean / 5S Manufacturing" and the Southwest Michigan College 2 day credited course on "Management of Lean / 5S in the Workplace." He completed a 10 hour OSHA General Course and a course on Chromium Plating for Engineering Applications (AESF). He has also completed the 2-Day Supervisory Development Program at the University of Notre Dame.
